Creating Structured Content
Use Headings for Structure and to Draw Attention
Headings are one of the most important elements of writing for the web. They transform a wall of text into an organized whole that is easier to scan and navigate.
Good headings alert the reader to what they’ll find in each section of content. They also draw attention to encourage visitors to read your content. Try to use action words in your headings.
Instead of:
A Message from HRS
A bland, label-style heading that doesn’t tell the reader anything about what they might find.
Write:
New Program Expands Financial Literacy
A specific heading that highlights the central message of the content.
Keep Content Short
Our users are busy. Most come to our website with a specific goal and don’t want to have to read extensively to find what they’re looking for. Effective copy will deliver the important points quickly.
